Fremont Ellis (1897-1985) was one the founding members of one of Santa Fe’s earliest and well-regarded artist societies. Along with Josef Bakos, Walter Mruk, Will Shuster, and Willard Nash they formed the Los Cinco Pintores in 1921. He worked in Santa Fe until his death in 1985. His art is sought after for its depictions of the landscape and peoples of Northern New Mexico.
