E. Martin Hennings

Nude with Artist

Oil on Canvas
36 x 30 in

Unframed dimensions: 29 x 24 in.

Hennings is known for the Southwestern landscapes and genre paintings he made as a member of the Taos Society of Artists, but he first fell in love with painting in his childhood home of Chicago. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago for five years, and most likely made this exquisite canvas in a figure painting class. It's a clear indicator of the phenomenal fine art career that was to come. Years later, he would set up his easel alongside Taos legends such as Ernest Blumenschein, Joseph Henry Sharp and Victor Higgins.
