Ramon Kelley (b. 1939) is known for his empathetic portrayal of human emotion, depicting people and scenes from Mexican and southwest life in his work. He spent four years in the Navy as a young man where he was inspired by the Renaissance, French Impressionism and 19-20th century Russian art that he saw during his travels. After serving he received a scholarship to study art at the Colorado Institute of Art. Kelley is regarded as a master pastelist and is in the American Pastel Hall of Fame.
