Pierre Bonnard was born in 1867 near Paris. His inaugural exhibition was in 1896 at the gallery of Paul Durand-Ruel.
The Royal Academy of Arts bestowed an honorary membership to Bonnard in 1940. In 1942, he exhibited with Henri Matisse, among other prominent artists, at the Gallery Serguy.
He traveled in Europe but then settled into an artistic life in Le Cannet, near Cannes, Pierre Bonnard passed away in 1947.
