Jean Cordet was an elusive mid-century French painter whose formal biography remains largely undocumented. Traditional gallery records state he was born in 1910 in Lyons, France, trained at the Painting School of Paris under Professor Maurice, and later settled in Vienna, Austria; however, his exact death date remains entirely unknown. Due to a total lack of official vital records, art historians widely believe "Jean Cordet" (or "Marcel Cordet") was a pseudonym, likely used by the artist Robert Heyer-Hayes. Cordet is best recognized for his commercially successful, heavily textured Impressionist-style paintings depicting romanticized Parisian streetscapes and vibrant Mediterranean coastal scenes.
