Winnifred (Winnie) Hawkins (1932-2012) did not begin painting until she was in her thirties but became an accomplished artist. She studied Fine Art at Louisiana Tech, expanding her eduction through travels to Mexico, Italy and Morocco with the University. Her work is in the Oklahoma State Art Collection and has been exhibited at the Governor's Gallery, the State Capitol and the East Gallery State Capitol in Oklahoma. In 1994 she, alongside five other female artists opened Studio Six, an art studio and gallery. The former gas station became a pillar of the Paseo Arts District in Oklahoma City and is still in operation today. Winnie Hawkins continued to paint until her death in 2012.
