Glenna Goodacre (1939-2020) was an internationally regarded artist most remembered for her Vietnam Women's Memorial and the design of the United States millennium dollar coin of Sacagawea. Her prolific career spanned five decades during which she received multiple prestigious awards as well as honorary doctorates from both her alma matters. In 1997 she began her most ambitious public work; the Irish Memorial at Penn's Landing in Philadelphia. The piece comprises thirty-five life size figures to commemorate the potato famine in Ireland and the immigration of the survivors afterward. She passed away peacefully at her home in Santa Fe, New Mexico in 2020.
